The first thing you should know is that I was never anywhere near as obsessed with Herr Süßmayr as some people seem to think. There are plenty of people in Vienna with the given names "Franz Xaver," and I am perfectly willing to wager that Franz Xaver Süßmayr did not father any of them. One of Kapellmeister Salieri's daughters is Francesca Xaviera Antonia, and no one would dare suggest anything improper about her in any way.
The second is that I have no idea why my cousin Carl believes the things he does. While he is perfectly willing to mention our family connections (largely to his own benefit, I am sure), we are not particularly close. Perhaps there is something to working in opera or living in large cities that makes one susceptible to be overly suspicious.
